Sunset Boulevard - Singapore - Feb, 2025
Well, always good to see a show we haven't seen before, but this is not one I need to see again. Not the greatest of plots, not the best of music. The redeeming feature was the set - impressive for a touring production. I think this guy sums it up best of all. https://www.straitstimes.com/life/entertainment/theatre-review-for-better-or-worse-sunset-boulevard-is-all-about-sarah-brightmanÂ

The Addams Family - Singapore - Nov, 2017
Another show passing through on the back of a UK West End run. Very different, as you might expect, but lots of fun - I certainly enjoyed it!

The Bodyguard - Nottingham - July, 2023
A 'Take That' musical? Of course it's going to be good! One of those shows where you are having to mime the singalong so as not to annoy the people around you, when you really want to belt them out.
-
The Full Monty - Shrewsbury - July, 2023
If you know the movie - you know this is going to be an 'interesting' show! Make it a local, amateur production, and you are asking for trouble. Still brings a pile of laughs though!

The King and I - London - July, 2018
Our last few nights in the UK were back in London and gave us a chance to see a couple more shows. One of the newest, having just opened was "The King and I" - and it lived up to the hype!
-
The Mongol Khan - Singapore - Oct, 2024
This one was different, the first show to come out of Mongolia and go on tour. Singapore was also the first time the show has been delivered in English. Great costumes and some good stage effects; but, to be honest, not the best music or storyline. One I am glad I had a chance to see it, but would not go back again.

The Nutcracker - Singapore - Dec, 2024
Although I am not a fan, Shanhong likes the ballet. So, when a Russian production tours in Asia - we had to go. Unfortunately, not a great production at all, probably a reason these dancers are touring in Asia rather than performing in Russia! Singapore audiences simply don't understand ballet etiquette either!
-
The Play That Goes Wrong - Plymouth - July, 2022
Not a musical, but if there are no musicals to see, you cast a wider net. This was fun!
-
The Three Phantoms - Singapore - May, 2017
We weren't sure about going to this one - a different theatre, and no real idea what it would involve. The three phantoms is essentially a concert performed by three actors who have played the part of the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. In fact, joined by other stars of musicals and a simple piano and cello accompaniment, it was a great night out. Having also won 'meet and greet' tickets, we got to have our photos taken with the full cast after the show!

Thoroughly Modern Millie - Bristol - June, 2017
Desperate to find any musicals in the UK we could see, I found 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' in Bristol - so called in for a night on the way down to Devon. A show we hadn't seen before - it is more 'traditional' in nature with great choreography and tap-dancing - thoroughly enjoyable!

Waitress - The Musical - London - July, 2019
This was another half-price offering where we had no idea what to expect. It's a fun show, unashamedly a jukebox musical, but nothing special.

Walk Right Back - Carlisle - July, 2022
There are not many theatres in the Lake District, so this was a couple of hours drive just to see a show. More a "tribute band" than a musical, but still a night out at the theatre.

We Will Rock You - Singapore - Jan, 2023
Another show passing through Singapore, so tickets had to be bought! It's not a bad show, but it isn't going to be a favourite.

West Side Story - Singapore - Sept, 2017
Billed as the Number 1 Greatest Musical in the World - we were excited to have West Side Story passing through Singapore. On an Asian tour direct from Broadway, this had everything going for it - but turned out to be a real disappointment. We didn't go on opening night - so there was no excuse - but sound levels were appalling and the cast and orchestra simply seemed unrehearsed. I am quite sure, with the right cast - and a good sound crew - this could indeed be a great show... but for this tour - our school production 5 years ago was better.

Wizard of Oz - London - July, 2023
A new production/interpretation by Andrew Lloyd Weber - and we were there for the very first show, with Andrew in the audience! Our ten-pound ticket was front row, which meant we could only see the bits when the cast were at the front of the stage - but it was good to be there for a first!
-
Wonderland - Dublin - June, 2017
Any excuse to see a show, so while on holiday in Dublin - I got tickets to see 'Wonderland' - a modern musical version of the Alice in Wonderland story. A fun night out: there are some catchy tunes and some fun moments!

Your lie in April - London - July, 2024
This is a beautiful show, based on a Manga movie, it has a simple, but effective set, an endearing storyline, and some great songs. We were lucky to catch this as it had an exceptionally short run, but hopefully it will return, I'd certainly go again!
